Joseph Chamberlain (1836–1914), serving as Colonial Secretary from 1895 to 1903, was a staunch supporter of the British Empire and strongly opposed any notion of its decline. Chamberlain's political actions aimed to prevent the weakening of British influence through active imperialism, countering the idea of the "setting of the British star" hence the quote on the plinth of this small spelter bust.
Lovely detail including his monocle, there are some rub marks due to age ( please see photos) it measures 12cm in height and 81/2 cm across the shoulders.
